The search is on: Summer 2020 Engineering Internships

Join us for a delightful journey

Would you like to have an epic summer while having an impact in the lives of millions of people? We are looking for enthusiastic minds to help us build up Wolt products for everyone involved: 700+ employees, 3M+ registered users, 7,000+ restaurant partners, 15,000+ courier partners. We operate in 19 countries and more than 70 cities, opening new markets every month. Now the search is on for our Engineering Interns of 2020!

Wolt is more than just a food delivery operation – in fact we are built upon a solid foundation of state-of-the-art technology. Our internal tooling enables us to ramp up new cities efficiently and provide excellent customer service, our own logistics platform allows us to optimise our couriers’ work to get you the food you want as fast as possible, and our restaurant platform allows restaurants to offer exciting food experiences for our customers in an optimal way.

And of course our award-winning mobile applications as well as wolt.com allow for easy and delightful customer experiences and efficient fixing of hunger.

13 teams, tailored internships and plenty of learning along the way!

This year we are hiring Engineering Interns to help us make a difference in the lives of all these people using Wolt products. We want you to bring in fresh ideas and passion for food and technology – we’ll provide the rest!

We will tailor the internship to suit your situation. You’ll be working with one of our 13 awesome teams where your existing skills will find their best match, and the internship period can be adjusted based on your availability. We do hope you’d be able to work with us for 3-6 months at least.

We offer a paid internship and a great opportunity to secure long-term employment with Wolt. All of our Engineering Interns from last year are now working for us part-time alongside their studies, or have stayed on as full-time engineers.

Next, let’s take a look at some of our product development and engineering teams to see what you’d be in for!

It’s all about user experience and making discovering food easy & fun

A little delight goes a long way

Deciding what to eat can be hard, so the main task of our consumer teams (Mobile, Web and Consumer Backend Services) is to make it easy and fun. We are very proud of our apps which have won multiple awards for great design. Everything starting from user’s registration and continuing to order tracking needs to be a seamless and well-thought-out experience. The magic behind our apps is focus on small details and making sure that every pixel is perfect.

Most Wolt orders are made through our Discovery view that features great nearby restaurants and has articles about the latest food trends in your city. Behind the scenes we are constantly working on new ways for our users to discover food, like personal recommendations. Restaurants can also have daily or weekly specials and other campaigns, like free delivery. Our Growth team focuses on testing campaigns like these, and developing new ways of enabling more growth for our business. The restaurants you choose to order from are at the core of Wolt. This is the mission of our Merchant team – to develop our in-house built restaurant application further and keep the marketplace running to make Wolt a great place both for restaurants and customers. We have more than 7,000 restaurants on Wolt, and their, as well as ours, daily operations depend on the Merchant tooling to work in an optimal way.

Logistic platform, internal tools and courier partner app enables us achieving the service level our customers expect from us

When the order arrives to our system, our fully automated logistics platform is responsible for connecting the customer, restaurant, and the courier to form the most optimal experience for all of them – in real time. Our Logistics team is responsible of Wolt’s optimization which is tasked with deciding which courier partners do which tasks and in what order. This decision is influenced by various goals like time windows, minimizing the delivery distance for courier partners, estimating travel times based on historical traffic patterns or how long pickups and dropoffs take, and meeting any special requirements of that specific delivery. This is an integral part of Wolt’s platform and a part of Wolt’s business that people don’t always realize the complexity of.

Our operations team is monitoring and reacting to possible problems (e.g. our courier partner’s car breaks down) in real time through our internal tools built by our LiveOps team. At the same time we communicate to all of our couriers where the next drop off is via our Courier team’s product, the courier partner app, built with React Native.

The Courier team strives towards the perfect experience for our hard working courier partners. The team is responsible for the app that our couriers use in their everyday work, but they also build multiple internal tools for courier lifecycle management. Wolt has over 15 000 courier partners.

Needless to say the logistic platform, internal tools, and courier partner app have to work seamlessly together so that we can achieve the service level that our customers expect from us.

In the end, there’s no business without money changing hands! Our Payments & Fintech teams take care of setting up and developing money flows in new and existing markets as well as providing our finance & operations in-house tooling for error prone money transactions.

We work in small teams with high ownership, with each team focusing on a key area of the Wolt product stack. Each and every one of our product team members have a say in where we are going and what solutions we implement. We work with a passion, but we haven’t forgotten how to have fun along the way!

If you don’t take our word for it (yet), you can read the thoughts of our engineers from these blog posts below:

Hiep, from Summer Intern to Full-time Engineer “I really enjoyed the professional and friendly environment at Wolt so I went for it”

Poyan, Wolt’s Courier app developer: “What drew me in is the emphasis the company puts on tech”

Johann, Wolt’s logistics engineer: “The most difficult situations require me to be Sherlock Holmes – when the routing suddenly goes haywire”

Tatiana, the DevOps Queen at Wolt: “Haskell is the only beautiful thing in the world”
