Varietal Sangiovese offers primary flavors of tart cherry, red plum, strawberry, and fig, with subtle notes of roasted pepper, tomato, leather, clay, brick, tobacco, smoke, oregano, thyme, dried roses, or potpourri.
The aroma varies, but most give off notes of vanilla, forest leaves, wild berries, and anise. Over time, you may notice the figs, roses and dried cherry scents, particularly if it is an older blend. A chalky undergrowth scent is common in Chianti Riserva and Brunello.
Garnet red color.
Wine perfectly complements meat dishes: roast lamb, steak and chips, spicy meatballs, as well as lasagna, pasta, blue and mature cheeses.
