Yiannis Economu crafts natural, handmade wines in eastern Crete at his family estate. He releases his wines when he feels they're ready, hence the 2014 vintage on this assyrtiko, normally a young, fresh style. Here you get all the minerality of assyrtiko, but with added depth and honeyed richness.
Deep amber colour with orange hues.
It captures all the attention from the first sniff. The complexity stands out and is still fresh despite the deliberate oxidation and the tertiary aromas. Full of peach, white pepper, jasmine, violet, butterscotch, almond and hazelnut.
It is soft and perfectly balanced, elegant yet powerful. The transformation is fantastic as the temperature changes. Rich and full of intense flavours like honey, cumin and gunpowder.Medium-bodied with almost high acidity and has a deliciously long and complex finish.
It is so intense that it can be paired with almost every dish, even with a steak.
