At Domaine Marcel Lapierre, wine is above all a family affair. With a history dating back to 1909, this family estate in the Beaujolais region stands out for its pioneering approach to vineyards and viticulture.
Today, this heritage of several decades is based on four fundamental pillars: the people, the soil, the climate and the grape variety. Proud of their heritage, Marcel Lapierre's children, Mathieu and Camille, are brilliantly carrying forward this ancestral philosophy. They have created extremely precise organic wines that exude all the aromatic nuances of Gamay.
From the family of the iconic "Gang of Four" leader, this one is crafted in only the most exceptional years. 'Cuvee MMXIX' comes from the oldest Gamay planted on the estate. We're talking ancient here, 100-year old vines in the Côte du Py and "Le Douby," which is near Fleurie.
The grapes are harvested by hand, then carefully sorted and placed in wooden truncated cone-shaped vats for a 24-day semi-carbonic maceration (without SO2 or yeast). The wine is aged in old 216 litre barrels for 9 months. The wine is bottled without filtration but with a slight addition of sulphites. Small production, structured, expressive. A serious Beaujolais that could age a bit for added complexity.
