Spain is located in south-western Europe, has almost 1.2 million hectares of vineyards, making it one of the countries with the largest vineyard area in the world - occupying more than 15% of the world's total, although it is only in third place in terms of production , behind Italy and France. This is partly due to the low density of vineyards in areas with dry climates and the presence of infertile soil in many of Spain's wine regions. Spanish wine varieties there are abundant, with more than 600 indigenous varieties planted throughout the country, although approximately 80% of the wine produced nationally is made from only about 20 types of grape varieties, among which stand out: Tempranillo, Albarino, Garnacha, Palomino, Airén, Macabeo, Verdejo, Moscatel from Alexandria, Parellada, Xarel·lo, Syrah, Cariňena and Monastrell.
