Tel Avivians literally mourned when Rothschild 12 cafe and bar closed its gates by the end of 2017. No one could imagine that its new incarnation will top the beloved local institute of the last decade. And yet, from the minute Herzl 16 opened it's doors (like its predecessor the name reflects on its location), one stormy afternoon last January, by Ruti Broudo and her team, it was clear that after the usual few “How I miss the Ham & Cheese Toast of R12” will vanish – here’s a new institute, that suggests the essence of what people loved so much, with the things they’re going to love in the years to come. Entering through a corridor from the crowded oldest street of Tel Aviv, the shabby-chic café spills out onto a one-of-a-kind inner yard, the heart of a 1921 four-story building, where stylish locals sip coffee and snack on pastries, enjoy Japanese-tinged food or relax over a hearty brunch on weekends.
