Grape: Monastrell, Yecla DO, Murcia, Spain
An old Monastrell with a hint of Swarovski. This is the most singular wine, a 100% Monastrell from the oldest pre-phylloxera ungrafted vines in the Yecla DO. Coming from Mediterranean-continentalized climate with its arid & harsh environment of very cold winters, and extremely hot summers which concentrates the nutrients in each fruit. Planted on limestone soil with a thick subsoil with the presence of carbonates and a sandy surface with clay formations which are poor in organic matter but quite healthy and permeable. Manual late harvest, in 10-15 kg boxes, intended to take care of the integrity of each grape, preventing it from being damaged (even from its own weight). Fermentation in small stainless steel tanks of 1,000 liters at 24 degrees Celsius and macerated for 21 days before its malolactic conversion. Aging is done in 225 liter French Allier oak barrels for a minimum period of 20 months. Appearance is clean and bright with a high intensity cherry red colour. Nose is literally a feast for the senses. Balsamic notes from a lot of ripe fruit and jammed currant with spicy character reminiscent of sweet spices like paprika, cinnamon and cocoa. Palate contains ample texture, smooth and pleasant start with silky tannins, well rounded with lots of fruit and jam & with slight hints of toast and chocolate. This is powerful, persistent & exceptional limited only for the most demanding palates. Serve at 16-18ºC. Certified Vegan
