Veneto, Italy / Francesco Serafini is an exuberant extrovert of this pair – winemaker, connoisseur, vine grower, cellar master and raconteur. Antonello Vidotto is the quieter of the two, mostlye in his vineyards out of the limelight. But together these school friends have created one of Veneto’s finest wineries. Serafini & Vidotto was founded in 1986 at Nervesa della Battaglia beneath the ruins of an old abbey. Phigaia After The Red is a Bordeaux-style red produced with Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. It ages in wood for a period ranging from 13 to 18 months and, finally, it rests in the bottle for a further 2 years. It comes in a ruby red color with garnet reflections. The scent is variegated and complex, running from a note of black cherry to one of medicinal herbs, passing through the memory of pepper and diverting to a texture of coffee and vanilla. In balance, the tannic texture and softness make up the mouth frame of this full-bodied but also very fresh red. It persists in a long memory of licorice.
