Wolt deliveries are 100 % carbon emission compensated*

We compensate 100 % of the carbon emissions from Wolt deliveries made by Wolt courier partners. This includes future, present, and past deliveries, dating back to 2015. For you as a customer, this is free. Wolt covers the cost. Together with our partner South Pole, which is an industry leader in climate action, we have calculated all carbon emissions created during the deliveries ordered on Wolt. We compensate for them by supporting recognized and certified carbon offset projects (more information below).

*Deliveries made by our restaurant partners as part of our “Self Delivery”-program are not compensated by Wolt, because we do not know which vehicles they use or the distance of the delivery.

How we calculate the emissions

Wolt deliveries are mainly done by car, scooter, motorbike and bicycle and we’ve calculated the emissions for each. Together with South Pole, we’ve estimated how much GHG-emissions the different Wolt-delivery vehicles emit into the atmosphere. This includes not only carbon dioxide emissions, but also methane and nitrous oxide. Wolt’s backend tracks the delivery vehicle for all deliveries, so we know how much to compensate each quarter. If for some reason we don’t have exact information about what kind of vehicle was used for a delivery, we’ll classify it as a car, just to be on the safe side and compensate enough.

Cars - 170g/km

The heaviest emitters of all Wolt vehicles. The average car emits 170 grams of carbon emissions to the atmosphere per kilometer.

Scooters - 100g/km

More precisely, all motorized two-wheelers (also e-scooters) emit on average 100g of carbon per kilometer.

Bikes - 10g/km*

*Calculated differently than standards. Usually, bikers are considered to emit 0g/km. We estimate 10g/km due to heavier breathing.

Wolt's impact

Through our partnership with South Pole, Wolt is currently supporting five projects. Every month, we calculate the total emissions from Wolt deliveries, and compensate for them by buying carbon-credits from South Pole. These credits are invested into five different projects currently, and below is our impact this far. We buy carbon-credits at the end of each quarter, and together with South Pole, decide which projects to support.

Here are the projects we currently support:
