Iliana Malihin's determination to highlight the "treasures" of southern Rethymno seems stronger than any kind of difficulty. The great fire that destroyed (even for the moment) a large part of the old prophylloxera vineyards in Melampes led her to other paths. Looking for organic grapes in other villages of Rethymnon such as Fourfouras, Monastiraki, Platania, Vatos etc. came into contact with extremely dehydrated cup-shaped trunks of the Liatiko variety, aged 15-50 years. The new rosé she created follows exactly the same principles and philosophy that govern all her wines. And the wine may have been made outside of planning, but it is certain that it is here to stay. A low-intervention culinary rosé with beautiful fruit reminiscent of cherry and plums and a mouth with mild tannins and the tartness of grapefruit on the aftertaste to balance the sweetness of the fruit.
